Description
Acer 'Baldsmith' is a striking, low-growing dissectum variety that captures attention with its vibrant hues. In early spring, the foliage emerges bright pink complemented by soft yellow-green undertones, giving this pendulous maple a graceful and refined look. In summer, the leaves transform into a rich green, beautifully highlighted by fresh bursts of pink-to-red growth. When autumn arrives, ‘Baldsmith’ continues to dazzle with fall foliage that showcases deep yellows and fiery oranges.
This cultivar features a well-proportioned shape, growing evenly and densely into a pleasing, low umbrella-like form. Within 15 years, it typically reaches dimensions of 5 feet in height and 5 ½ feet in width, making it an ideal choice for enhancing garden aesthetics.
Its unique and stunning color palette allows ‘Baldsmith’ to serve as a captivating centerpiece in any landscape or as an eye-catching specimen in a container. While this maple is a true standout on its own, it pairs exceptionally well with deep red or green dissectum varieties, creating a harmonious and visually appealing garden composition.

Sun Needs:
Full sun/part shade. For all Japanese Maples it’s important to think about light exposure: Too much light can damage delicate leaves. Too little light, and some of the more colorful varieties will take on an attractive greenish tone, but not the brilliant fall colors. For best color, most maples need a location with part day's sun or at least high light.
Soil/Water Needs:
Moist, organically rich, slightly acidic, well-drained soil. Prefers consistent moisture: Mulch will help retain moisture. Don't let soil dry out, nor become waterlogged.
